You can use a whisk in a pinch, but an electric mixer helps a lot to make the process go by much faster and gives a smoother fluffier texture easier.

Easy Chocolate Buttercream

Yield: Enough for one 13x9 cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 3 and 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 Tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Instructions:

  • In a large mixing bowl, add the softened butter and 2 cups of the powdered sugar. Using a whisk or hand held mixer, combine well until smooth and fluffy. Add the remaining powdered sugar, cocoa powder, cream, salt, and vanilla to the mixture and beat again until everything is well combined, smooth, and fluffy.

Notes

Store in an airtight container on the counter for up to one week, or in the fridge for up to 3 months.
