Homemade chocolate buttercream is something everyone should know how to make! Whether you want to top some homemade cupcakes with a made at home buttercream, or you are making a baked good and realize you don’t have any store-bought frosting left, this recipe is a great one to have on hand!
Chocolate buttercream has just 6 ingredients that you probably already have on hand in your kitchen.
You can use a whisk in a pinch, but an electric mixer helps a lot to make the process go by much faster and gives a smoother fluffier texture easier.
In 5 minutes or less you have a delicious fluffy chocolate buttercream that will knock your socks off!

Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- 3 and 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 Tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, add the softened butter and 2 cups of the powdered sugar. Using a whisk or hand held mixer, combine well until smooth and fluffy. Add the remaining powdered sugar, cocoa powder, cream, salt, and vanilla to the mixture and beat again until everything is well combined, smooth, and fluffy.

Store in an airtight container on the counter for up to one week, or in the fridge for up to 3 months.
