Adorable Butterfly Snack Bags

Butterfly Snack Bags

Raise your hand if you have a hard time getting your kid to eat their lunch or snack at school! *raising both of my hands high!* My daughter was NOT eating her snacks at school about 60% of the time. When she did eat it, she would never finish it. Even if I sent her with her favorite foods she would come home not having eaten but 2 bites. So I decided to try to make a cute snack bag that would draw her attention away from the fascinating conversations that her and her 4 year old friends would be having and actually notice the food sitting in front of her. And what do you know? It WORKED! She said all her friends loved her butterfly and she ended up eating the whole thing!

Here is how to make these adorable little butterfly snack bags:

Butterfly Snack Bags

The supplies you will need are sandwich bags, pipe cleaners, small jewels for eyes, black sharpie marker, glue, and clear tape.

The ingredients you will need are string cheese sticks, chopped strawberries and blueberries (any fruit of your choice would work – grapes, apples
and/or oranges sliced small, etc.), veggie straws (can use chips of your choice, or fresh veggies – baby carrots, celery slices), as well as mini cheese or peanut butter cracker sandwiches. It’s really up to you how you mix and match your choice of snacks, but the cheese stick kind of needs to stay the same.

Use a pipe cleaner to evenly divide the sandwich bag into two sections. Wrap it a few times around the center, leaving the two ends facing up. Slightly curl the ends.

Open the sandwich bag and place fruit into one side of the bag. Place veggies, crackers, chips or another snack of your choice in the other side. Close the bag.

Take the top flap of the string cheese and fold it back. Tape to secure it in place. This will give the butterfly a rounded top. Next, glue two jewels on for eyes, and draw a smile on with the sharpie.

Attach the “body” of the butterfly to the “wings” by placing the string cheese right over the center of the bag of snacks, and use a long piece of tape to secure the cheese in place.
