With fall is in full swing, I couldn’t help but notice every dessert I wanted to try to make required pumpkin spice. The problem is, that’s not a spice blend I usually have on hand. So thankfully I was able to find a recipe for homemade pumpkin spice mix in my grandmother’s old cookbook that she gave to me a few years ago. It is always nice when I get to use her cookbook because it feels like we are cooking together even when she is not here.
The ingredients are simple, the effort is minimal, and the flavor is phenomenal! So I made a medium sized jar full of homemade pumpkin spice mix for all of my fall baking. I plan to maybe add some to my next batch of granola for an interesting fall like flavor. Or maybe even to be added to a batch of ice-cream to be enjoyed on those occasional warm fall days. Though I mainly needed this homemade pumpkin spice mix for some amazing pumpkin spice french toast that I pinned months agoΒ and homemade pumpkin spice lattes!
If there is anything you love to use pumpkin spice mix for PLEASE let me know in the comments below. I haven’t used it in that wide of a variety of food, so if I’m missing’ out on somethingΒ let me know! π
Ingredients:
- 3 Tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp ground allspice
Instructions:
- Combine ingredients & whisk together OR pulse in a small food processor until combined. (Food processor wakes up those spices if they have been sitting in the cupboard for a while.) Store in a small jar or airtight container.

What a great way to use up the little bits of these spices and start with fresh ones for the baking season. I add a little of all of these to cookies and cakes this time of year. They say “fall” to me. Thanks for sharing this at What’d You Do This Weekend.
