A Hectic Life

I would love to pretend I was some organized, neat, person who is good with the whole time management thing and colors in the lines more times than not. I would also like to pretend that I have a very clean house and a schedule in place with chunks of “free” time here and there.

I would love to.

But I can’t.

Not even for one second.

I am typically very busy, so when I have down time I. Enjoy. Every. Second. Of. It.

There is no exact schedule for me. I have tried to maintain one before, and it just doesn’t work for me. They just never work out.Plus, I don’t like the feeling of being restricted by a piece of paper. I guess I’m just a rebel like that.

I just sort of make mental notes of any major things going on that day and plan for them. like if we need bread for lunch, then I need to start bread by 9:30. Or, if we need to go shopping that day, I need to prep some snack at a free moment, so we don’t get arrested for starving a bunch of kids in a house stocked with food who know how to cook just fine.

Oh, but scratch those plans because the baby (who isn’t really a baby anymore, he’s almost 3, so I guess we should stop calling him the baby) just decided to take a red sharpie to the couch, chest freezer, and front door while you were cleaning out the fridge and making a grocery list.

Yeah.

It’s an amazing life isn’t it????

That was half way sarcastic in case you didn’t know.

Oh, but that’s not all!!!

Grampa’s called saying he was coming over to deliver some corn, and he’d be there in an hour.

Greeeeeeeeeat………..

Well I had no clue how to get sharpie out of the couch, so I asked people on twitter, Facebook, and texted everyone I knew. Some people said eraser would get it off the door, and suggested different essential oils. Unfortunately, our door and freezer now have some “character”. As for the couch, vinegar and a little elbow grease got that sucker right out.

Needless to say we didn’t eat sandwiches for lunch that day. We ate leftovers.

Old.

Unwanted.

Leftovers.

And we didn’t enjoy it, in case you hadn’t guessed.

A hectic life-1

When it comes to gardening, I plan, but don’t plan. Ya know? It’s good to have an idea of what you generally want to happen. Just don’t expect it to work out 100% of the time.  That’s right. Story time.

At the beginning of this year we built 11 beds filled it with a compost mix and direct sowed a bunch of seeds. The spinach and beans were doing great. Then two weeks later they were eaten up by some evil bugs, whom I don’t like very much.

The potato cages that were supposed to produce 3x as much as what we put in the ground last year??? Failed. Terribly. We have one plant coming out of the top of the hay and I don’t even want to water it, it’s so depressing.

So again, don’t expect things to work out perfectly every time. I’m still getting over this. I still have a generally happy life though. I think it’s because I try to see where God is leading me with these hardships and hiccups. I think He has given me so much hard things in my life the make me strong for something I will have to face down the road. I can’t know for sure, but I know I’ll be ready for whatever He throws my way. Otherwise He wouldn’t put me through it. 🙂

Life is crazy.

Life is hectic.

Life is life.

So make the most of it.

Woah.

That sounded quotable. 🙂 haha

  1. Isn’t it good in our crazy lives to see God’s goodness? The moments can be hard but when we look over our days we see that life is just like that and God is good. So enjoyed reading this–laughed a few times–then prayed God would send you a blessing today (one not connected to a red sharpie!) ~Pamela

  2. Praying for you friend! Love your gardening references. This year we planted our second garden and God has used it to teach me so much more than gardening. I have a black thumb but God continues to show up and surprise me.

Many blessings on your family, Tiffany

  3. Oh, those sharpies, they are dangerous! By the way, my baby sister is 7 and I still call her “baby”. 😉 I’m the oldest of 7 kids–my siblings and my parents and I are spread over three different countries right now because 3 of us are out of the house, but when we’re all together with my husband, too, there’s “10 at the table” and it’s a very happy table to be at, I think. 🙂

  4. Oh no! Not the sharpie! That’s rough. Did you try a Mr. Clean Magic Erase marker? Maybe that would work?

Life does throw us all sorts of things. I love your perspective… God always has a plan for us.

    Wishing you a lovely weekend.

  5. Yes, life is so hectic and busy! Our personalities are very similar and I am not that organized either. 🙂 It’s so refreshing to find someone real I can identify with and am a new follower. I can’t wait to try some of those recipes you posted at the Saturday Soiree Blog Party! Thanks for joining us!

  6. I also do not do well with a schedule. I’m an INFP (Myers Briggs personality type) and must have the freedom to choose my tasks as the day progresses. I find what helps me is finding the best time for my body to wake up, 6am for me, and having a to-do list in a journal. I just carry the journal around with me to check to see what I need to get done and decide what to do when the time comes. It’s also fun to check off an accomplishment.

  7. I am so with you! I have tried to have my day planned out to the hour but I always end up just like you – a mental note of the Must Dos and then just hoping to make it through the rest of it all with my sanity…LOL

There are days I forget something (an entire dance class…LOL) or even need to postpone something but still as long as well all make it through happy and together I still count it as a success.

Thanks so much for sharing your hectic life with us at The Mommy Monday Blog Hop…

  8. We have a big family, too and I get jealous sometimes of people that can plan and schedule a little better. With so many people and all their different personalities, needs, and desires, it just doesn’t always go the way I think it’s going to. I do notice that God teaches me more through the days things got off track though, too! 🙂 #saturdaysoiree

  9. This is great and I could not agree more! LOL! I have all but given up on my garden…I have had 3 tomatoes and 3 cucumbers, a few peas, and a few green beans. Unfortunately weeds overtook, because we used seeds too! And the yard, children, laundry, cooking, cleaning, homeschooling, etc., etc., etc. LOL! Thank you so much for sharing on This Momma’s Meandering Mondays! Have a great week!

  10. I feel like if I make a schedule, it won’t happen and then I will be frustrated. Why bother? 🙂

  13. I laughed out loud at the permanent marker! We had the same thing happen… several times: orange, black, red, and blue. Rubbing alcohol. Works every time 😉 And yes, this was courtesy of my “baby” who is coincidentally also three. He just recently squished play dough dots on the wall and circled them with a red marker with a friend while we were on vacation and when we got home, he WD-40’ed my bathroom tile floor. Seriously, I totally agree that all you can do is laugh! And enjoy every minute of it, because you can’t make this stuff up! I keep joking that they are just trying to be helpful by giving me more material for my blog! Thanks so much for sharing!

  14. I remember those days well when the kiddos were young and adventurous. Now that they are older we have the grandkids to take their places – same things happen just with different little faces. Fun memories. Thank you for sharing at Share It One More Time. cAthy

  15. Sigh. This all sounds wayyy too familiar. Even down to the potato plants! Just exchange the couch for a wall and the 3-year old for a 2-year old.

I’m pretty sure everything He allows us to go through is giving us the chance to choose to cling to Him and reflect His character. It’s hard, but knowing Him more is worth it. 😉

Thanks for sharing this at Savoring Saturdays, Maria Alison, hope you’ll share with us again this weekend! 🙂

  17. :gasp: at the marker all over the couch, door, and refrigerator! I can’t imagine the full on frustration you felt in that moment of realization. I know my moments like that are just…unspeakable! I am often both in wonder, shock, and amazement while I also want to laugh because Baby Boy’s looking at me like “what?” with that smile – oh the smile!

    Stopping over from Mommy Monday!

  18. Oh my goodness, THOSE days. I totally get you!

I once had my toddler draw all over the walls and wood floors with marker. I was scrubbing away and my older daughter approached me and said, “Are we EVER going to eat?” I could have lost it. LOL

Thanks for sharing and linking up to the #SHINEbloghop.

    Wishing you a lovely weekend.
